- We will also visit and study in detail the history of the main attraction of the city – the Okba Mosque. This is the first mosque in all of Africa and the fourth after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. To preserve this cultural monument, it was restored and repaired many times: in 1025 during the reign of Emir al-Muizz ibn Badis, in 1789 in the era when Algeria belonged to the Ottoman Empire, during the reign of Wali Mohamed ben Omar at-Tunisi. There were other reconstructions; this is reflected in many inscriptions, one of them, for example, dates back to year 1800.
