- The place where we will go is very close to Johannesburg. The small settlement of Cullinan, which has hardly changed over time stands there. And there is one of the richest diamond mines nearby (also often called the Premier mine), where the largest diamonds in the world are found. In addition, the mine sits above an impressive kimberlite pipe, one of the largest in the world.
- Although this mine is only the third largest in the country, it is quite famous for the fact that it was here that the largest Cullinan diamond was discovered in 1905. Now this diamond has found its place in the crown of the Queen of Great Britain. This diamond impresses with its clarity and quality. There is a small black spot in the center, which could be due to strong internal stress.
- The diamond has an amazing history: working such a rare stone is a very risky business, and there is a legend that the jeweler Joseph Asher passed out when he cut this diamond in half.
