- Our first stop is the Gitega National Museum. This is also Burundi's national museum. It was established during the Belgian colonial period in 1955. This museum is the biggest of the public museums in Burundi, despite the fact that its collection is displayed in a single room.

- Drumming rituals have historically been part of the enthronement of kings, farming festivals and funerals of kings and queens. The drums themselves have long been identified with the power of kings and monarchy.
- Since the country is made up of many different clans, including Abahansa, Abavuma, Abajiji and Abashubi, drumming became a way of uniting the diverse population between generations and families. The ritual dance performed with the royal drum, ingoma, was one way of uniting the people and venerating the royal family.
